This is what I'm doing with my solids and sheer fabrics. I saw this idea in a magazine years ago. If the fabric is sheer, I just double it up and use 2 as 1. I can also use up some leftover batting. After sewing the strip on top of the previous one, I cut a long strip of batting, roll it up, and stitch it down.
I love the look of this but don't understand what you do with the batting??
ReplyDeleteI cut the solid fabrics 3" wide. I marked one inch strips on the foundation. Once a color row is stitched down, I take a long strip of batting, about 3-4" wide, roll it up in a long straw, lay it on the seam of the previous row of stitching and as I sew push the batting toward the finished rows and stitch the new row down. It's a "quilt as you go" method!
ReplyDeleteI had so many sheer fabrics from smocking, that I just doubled up the thickness on them as I sewed the colors together for each strip.
